The Center for Innovation is under construction! The Center will be housed on the third floor of the Wallace Educational Forum.
The Center for Innovation houses two Institutes: The Professional Development Institute and the Research and Development Institute.
The Professional Development Institute The mission of the Professional Development Institute is to provide immersive, prescribed and personalized learning experiences for educators. Educators will be able to choose from a menu of professional development offerings by expert peers and guest lecturers. The Center is located on the third floor of the new Wallace Educational Forum. The physical space of the Center will include space for large group professional development, as well as, small group interactions and collaborative space. For example, collaboration "fish bowls" will provide transparent learning spaces created out of glass, allowing for small group work in an intimate setting. The Research and Development Institute The mission of the Research and Development Institute is to provide expertise in the evolving field of EdTech Procurement and resource allocation. The EdTech movement is an eight billion dollar industry in America, with kick-start companies and startup accelerator programs spreading across the country. Many EdTech companies are focusing their product design on personalized learning experiences for students. If correctly designed, these products can provide tailored curricular support for individual learner needs as well as foster creativity, collaboration and engagement. The power of this type of individualized instruction has drawn the attention of businesses, policymakers, administrators, educators, and families nationally. However, because of the rapidly expanding field of EdTech, little is known about the effectiveness of individual applications and programs. Many start-up EdTech companies find it difficult to provide the empirical data and evidence needed to convince district leaders of their product’s educational merit. Conversely, educators are left to integrate tools with little input on their design and practicality. The Research and Development Institute seeks to address these issues in EdTech procurement.
